The South African Tourism Department will invest 2 billion rand in the tourism budget to stimulate South African tourism growth.
Derek Hanekom, Tourism Minister of South Africa, said that although the decline in tourism in 2015 has brought considerable pressure to South Africa's tourism industry, the tourism sector is still an important part of South Africa's national development plan and it is also promoting the economy. The main driving force for growth.
South African Tourism Minister Derek said that 2015 is a very difficult year for South African tourism. International and South African domestic economic pressures and tourists’ concerns about the safety of travel in Africa have made people discourage Africa. The difficulty in obtaining visas and other entry materials has also added some difficulties to the arrival of tourists. The combination of various reasons led to a 6.8% decline in the number of international tourists in South Africa in 2015.
In early 2016, the number of tourists increased significantly. In January compared to the same period in 2015, the number of tourists increased by 15% and in February increased by 18%. The data shows that tourism in South Africa is gradually picking up. At the same time, the Department of Tourism of South Africa will also guarantee the sustainability of this growth by rationalizing the 2 billion rand tourism budget for the 2016/17 fiscal year, while increasing employment opportunities, business growth and economic recovery.
The Ministry of Tourism of South Africa will achieve this through measures including expanding markets, further enhancing the travel experience of tourists to the south, and providing economic opportunities for the community.
